From Espirdo you
can easily visit all the Segovia region and the Guadarrama mountains.
Segovia has a big
density of villages who conserve the castillian character and his old buildings.
We invite the tourist to discover and enjoy this little secrets of the
centre of Iberian peninsula.
The closed
mountains offer good places to make trips over the wide view to the
castillian plane.

As a said say, the Acueducto de Segovia was built by the devil in
only one night. There is one stone miss that never got to his place
because the person how ordered the Acueducto to the devil regret
just in the last minute.
No thanks to the devil but to the romans we can now admire this
impressive construction. Is the great roman aqueduct that conserve.
Looking to it make feel the time of the history.
El Alcazar is a majestic medieval castle where the famous Isabel I the
Catholic was proclaimed queen of Castilian.
Actually the Cathedral is a must to visit.
We recommend to walk slowly in the narrow streets of Segovia, to visit
the numerous churches and to see the old palaces.
Walking near the Eresma river between de trees you can get to La
Fuencisla, patron of Segovia and see La Veracruz church that has a
dodecagonal shape, regular in Templar buildings. There you get a impressing
view of El Alcazar.

La Granja y
Valsaín [up]

The real place of La Granja due
his universal fame to the palace that was ordered to construct by Felipe
V, the first Borbon king of Spain. This was his favourite place to enjoy
the life with his wife the queen Isabel de Farnesio.
There are big gardens with
spectacular fonts.
This palace remind other
royal places like Aranjuez or the Royal Palace of Madrid and have
Versalles as reference model.
Near the palace there are
the Royal Glass Fabric who make royal family crockery.
The village of La Granja is
famous too by his big beans which you can find in any gastronomy
selection of Segovia.
Just a few km far away, on the rode to Navacerrada Pass you find Valsain
who is known by his pine wood, very appreciated as building and furniture
material. La Boca del Asno is a traditional place to make a picnic and to
go into the water in the Eresma river. In Valsaín you can visit the
Nature Interpretation Center (CENEAM).

Pedraza [up]

Pedraza is a
well known place to visit near Segovia.
This village
conserve his character from the middle age. It is placed in the top of a
hill surrounded by a wall. There are only a door to get inside. The
castle, the numerous aristocratic stone houses and the church are
very interesting. It worth a trip only to have a walk in his streets and
see his splendid square

Duratón canyon [up]

The Duraton river makes a
big canyon when he gets to the plane half his way from the mountains to
the Duero. This place is protected by a Natural Park declaration.
From San Frutos church,
situated in a corner of the river path you can see a nice view of the
river and surely observe the fly of the numerous black an royal vultures
that have his nets there.
There are a tourist centre
and a place where you can do some outside activities like canoeing.
Close to the canyon is
Sepulveda village where you can visit the Interpretation Center of the
park.

Sotosalbos [up]

The Sotosalbos
church is one of the mayor representative of the romanic architecture in
Segovia. It is only some Km. away from Espirdo.

Malagosto pass [up]
|
This mountain pass communiqué the Castilian
plane in the north with the Lozoya Valley. It was very used in the
middle age, but in our days there are not any road to get there. You can
only climb to Malagosto walking, by bicycle, or with a 4 x 4 car. The
pass is usually closed by the snow in winter. This place is referred by
Arcipreste de Hita in his famous novel “El libro del Buen Amor”
(The Good Love Book). In august there are a festivity excursion to this
pass.

Romanic rural route [up]

The Town of Segovia has more than twenty romanic
churchs dated in XII and XIII centuries. That means Segovia is, after Zamora,
the spanish city with mayor number of romanic buildings.
In the province of Segovia you can find a lot of
romanic churchs in the large amount of little villages. There are
some guides and resources were you can find information to prepare the
visits.

Torrecaballeros [up
|
This village, located on the road N-110 to Soria,
is 4 Km away from Espirdo. His relevance comes from the number of
restaurants installed in it. The speciality are rousted lamb,
rousted pork, the big beans of La Granja, and the “caldereta”, a dish
with potatoes and lamb.
